James died “peacefully and at home, surrounded by his family”, his agents said

Clive James, the Australian writer and broadcaster known around the world for his dry wit, has died at the age of 80.

Diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010, the author and critic had movingly written about his terminal illness during the final years of his life.

Born Vivian James in 1939, he moved to England in 1961 and rose to prominence as a literary critic and TV columnist.

He went on to deliver wry commentary on international programming in such shows as Clive James On Television.

The show saw him introduce amusing and off-beat TV clips from around the world, most famously from Japanese game show Endurance.

According to a statement from his agents, he died at home in Cambridge on Sunday. A private funeral was held on Wednesday in the chapel at Pembroke College.

“Clive died almost 10 years after his first terminal diagnosis, and one month after he laid down his pen for the last time,” the statement read.

“He endured his ever-multiplying illnesses with patience and good humour, knowing until the last moment that he had experienced more than his fair share of this ‘great, good world’.

“He was grateful to the staff at Addenbrooke’s Hospital [in Cambridge] for their care and kindness, which unexpectedly allowed him so much extra time.

“His family would like to thank the nurses of the Arthur Rank Hospice at Home team for their help in his last days, which allowed him to die peacefully and at home, surrounded by his family and his books.”

Singer Alison Moyet was among many to pay tribute to a man she described as a “bright, beaming boy“.

Ex-tabloid editor Piers Morgan remembered him as “a brilliantly funny man“, while presenter Gaby Roslin said he had been “incredibly kind“.

“We were lucky to have him for so long after his diagnosis,” wrote actor Samuel West. “We were lucky to have him at all.”

Reverend Richard Coles said he was “the best telly critic that ever there was“, while Margarita Pracatan – the Cuban singer James helped make a household name – paid tribute to his “intelligence… talent and beautiful way of living”.

Tony Hall, the BBC’s director general, said the “irreplaceable” James was “a clever, witty and thought-provoking broadcaster”.

“He had a huge range of talents and everything he did was essential listening or viewing,” Lord Hall continued.

‘Condom full of walnuts’

James was renowned for his pithy turns of phrase. He once likened Arnold Schwarzenegger to “a brown condom full of walnuts” and said motor racing commentator Murray Walker sounded “like a man whose trousers are on fire”.

He was equally waspish when describing Dame Barbara Cartland, whose eyes he said “looked like the corpses of two small crows that had crashed into a chalk cliff”.

“Common sense and a sense of humour are the same thing, moving at different speeds,” was another of his famous quotes.

He also had advice for his future obituarists, telling them “shorter is better, and that a single line is best”.

“Any encounter with James, either in print or in person, left you desperate to go and open a book, watch a film or a TV show, or hunt down a recording,” said Don Paterson, poetry editor at James’s publisher Picador.

“With Clive’s passing we lose the wisest and funniest of writers, a loyal and kind friend, and the most finely-stocked mind we will ever have the fortune to encounter.”

Luke Shaw facing battle to win back his Manchester United place from Brandon Williams – Daily Mail

Luke Shaw facing huge battle to win back his place from Brandon Williams at Manchester United as 19-year-old academy starlet becomes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice ahead of injury-prone £31m man

  • Brandon Williams has emerged as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice left back
  • It has left Luke Shaw facing a huge challenge to win back his place in the side
  • Shaw has struggled with injuries and has seen 19-year-old Williams impress
  • Williams was left at home for the trip to Astana while Shaw is set to get minutes

Luke Shaw faces a battle to win back a first-team place at Manchester United after being told he has fallen behind teenage star Brandon Williams in the pecking order.

Williams has staked his claim to be United’s first-choice left back in the absence of Shaw who has not played since August due to a hamstring injury.

While the 19-year-old has stayed at home to prepare for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa, Shaw has made the 6,000-mile round trip to Kazakhstan to play Astana in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Williams has made such good progress that it’s understood he has jumped ahead of Shaw in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans and the United boss is no longer planning to sign cover at left back over the next two transfer windows.

The teenager has made eight appearances this season since being handed his senior debut off the bench in the Carabao Cup against Rochdale in September, and scored his first goal to spark United’s comeback at Sheffield United on Sunday.

Shaw, on the other hand, has had a stop-start career at Old Trafford since United paid Southampton £31million in 2014 to make him the most expensive teenager in world football.

He suffered a horrific double fracture of his right leg in a Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven in September 2015, and was then frozen out for long periods by former United manager Jose Mourinho.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a renaissance under Solskjaer and was voted United’s Player of the Year last season, but has not played since limping out of the defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on August 24.

While Shaw is still very much in Solskjaer’s plans, he has been told that Williams has earned the right to be first-choice and must try to win back his place.

United will now focus on adding to their midfield and attack, although most of the transfer business will be done next summer unless a target becomes available in January.

Liverpool line ups vs Napoli with Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah involved – Liverpool Echo

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-team-news-line-ups-17322775

Mohamed Salah returns to the Liverpool attack

Paul Gorst: The chance to seal qualification to the last 16 for a third successive season is a tantalising prospect for Jurgen Klopp, surely he will go strong?

Alisson Becker is in goal behind a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson.

If that sore ankle is playing up, he can rest it against Brighton at the weekend.

No Fabinho for that aforementioned Brighton visit so he is a shoo-in in my midfield three alongside Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum.

Follow Liverpool vs Napoli LIVE here

Mohamed Salah returns to my front three alongside his usual mates Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Mane, Firmino.

Jurgen Klopp should go as strong as possible vs Napoli

Ian Doyle: Get qualification done. Sorry to go all electioneering on you there, but securing progress to the Champions League knockout stages with a game to spare is paramount to Liverpool.

Especially if it gives them an opportunity to rest weary legs in the final group game at Salzburg.

Jurgen Klopp, then, should go as strong as possible. It makes the team selection pretty easy.

The defence is, well, the defence that has been relied upon for several weeks now.

And the attack is, well, the attack that has been relied upon for several years now.

Which leaves the midfield. Fabinho, given he won’t be playing against Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend, must start.

I’d also keep faith in Jordan Henderson, who enjoys this type of game.

But as a bit of a curveball, I’d like to see Naby Keita given an opportunity, although if Gini Wijnaldum is preferred and the Guinean is kept back for the weekend then it wouldn’t be a massive surprise.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Keita; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Reds must pick strongest XI available

Connor Dunn: Liverpool know that victory against Napoli will seal qualification into the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

It’s important then to pick the very strongest XI available and that was likely always going to be the case.

Alisson, of course, starts in goal while Trent Alexander-Arnold continues at right-back and Andy Robertson is on the other flank – provided his ankle is up to the task as it was at Palace.

Dejan Lovren, meanwhile, was excellent against the Eagles at the weekend and so keeps his place alongside Virgil van Dijk in the middle of defence.

Early team news and Liverpool vs Napoli build up LIVE here

Mohamed Salah was on the bench for the trip down to London but trained ahead of this match against Napoli and therefore comes back into the side to lead the line in a front three with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

In the middle of the park it’s the tried and trusted trio of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum for me to give the Reds a solid unit and base from which to control this game.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Naby Keita can take advantage of Napoli problems

Joe Rimmer: Win this one and December gets that little bit easier for Liverpool.

The trip to Salzburg, which on paper looks a dangerous one for Jurgen Klopp’s men, becomes nothing more than a dead rubber and a chance to see some more of Liverpool’s talented young players.

So with that in mind, the Reds need to take full advantage of Napoli’s recent problems and secure top spot of Group E.

To do that Jurgen Klopp needs Alisson In goal and a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson, as well as his usual front three, with a fit again Mohamed Salah.

The only risk I’d be tempted to take is a tweak in midfield to get the Reds on the front foot from the off.

So step forward Naby Keita.

The Guinean has to start firing soon and this is a big chance for him to show he can be a key man in the middle. So he’s in my midfield along with Gini Wijnaldum and Fabinho.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita; Salah, Mane, Firmino.

Win tonight and Reds can rest in Salzburg

Theo Squires: Beat Napoli and Liverpool not only qualify for the Champions League knockout stages with a game to spare, they clinch top spot too. How unlike the Reds!

With that in mind I expect Jurgen Klopp to name his strongest available XI, even with his side about to start the busiest run of their season. Besides, win tonight and he can rest players in Salzburg.

The back five is unchanged with Andy Robertson playing through the pain barrier and Dejan Lovren having now nailed down that centre-back slot alongside Virgil van Dijk in Joel Matip’s absence.

Liverpool vs Napoli matchday

In midfield Fabinho is a definite starter considering he’s suspended for the weekend. Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum join him to make up Klopp’s go-to midfield trio.

And Mohamed Salah returns in attack in place of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to take up his place alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Deliver a repeat of last year’s Anfield winner against the Italians please, Mo!

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Katie Price has the weight of the world on her shoulders after being declared bankrupt – Daily Mail

Katie Price was pictured for the first time since being declared bankrupt as she went for a stroll in Brighton on Wednesday.

The former glamour model, 41, looked understandably downcast following further reports that her toyboy ex Charles Drury, 22, is considering suing her, as well as court orders prompting her to pay her ex husband Alex Reid £140,000 in legal fees.

With the weight of the world on her shoulders, hours earlier Katie was dealt another blow as it’s claimed her on/off beau Kris Boyson split from her again following concerns about ‘all the pressure she’s under.’

With a lot of her mind, it’s no surprise that Katie took some time for herself during her rainy day stroll on Wednesday.

Katie was dressed for the grim weather on the outing, donning a black knee-length padded black coat with her hood up

The star, known as Jordan in her heyday, also sported a pair of dark green trousers and a pair of open-toed shoes with a faux-fur detail.

Ensuring to keep up appearances, Katie sported a heavy coat of bronzed make-up, as well as hot pink manicure.

Meanwhile, despite her woes, Katie enjoyed a night out in Cardiff on Tuesday, hours after being made bankrupt.

The TV personality who did not appear in court in London, shared Instagram photos shortly after the hearing as she got ready with the help of a professional makeup artist.

Dressed in pink satin thigh-high boots and a feathered skirt, Katie looked relaxed and happy in the Instagram photos despite further legal problems, as it has been reported her toyboy ex boyfriend Charles Drury is considering suing the star.

Insiders have claimed that builder Charles, 22, sent Katie a legal warning after hearing that she allegedly made critical comments about him during filming for the new series of her reality show, My Crazy Life, which airs next month.

A trailer for the new series sees Katie showing a friend her house while complaining that an unnamed builder has ‘let her down’ as she admits ‘I feel so stupid. I was sold a dream’.

‘Charles was furious when he heard she’d be talking badly about him in the show. He’s worried she’ll slam his work as a builder – and as a boyfriend,’ says the source speaking to The Sun.

‘He’s got the backing of his management team to take action against her if she so much as mentions his name in a negative way.

‘They’ve also contacted the TV company that makes the show. He won’t let Katie get away with anything and will be watching very closely when it airs on 8 December.’

MailOnline have contacted representatives for Katie for comment.

Katie is also seen issuing a grovelling apology to boyfriend Kris Boyson for cheating on him with Charles in a first look from My Crazy Life.

The star is seen telling the personal trainer: ‘I just want to say I’m really sorry about everything.’

A disheartened Kris, who was forced to endure news that Katie had cheated on him with Charles then told her: ‘That doesn’t really mean anything anymore, does it?’

Shortly after in the teaser, Kris is seen discussing the situation with a pal, telling him: ‘After everything, I’ve been 100 per cent honest and she’s the one who’s gone off and been unfaithful.’

Late last month the pair confirmed their reunion after they briefly split when Katie enjoyed a short-lived fling with builder Charles.

However, on Wednesday it was claimed that Katie and Kris have once again split.

Speaking to The Sun, insiders have said that the pair will ‘stay friends’ and Kris ‘is really worried about her and all the pressure she’s under.’

‘Normally Katie’s relationships end in a huge row, but with Kris it’s different,’ says the source.

‘They’ll still stay friends and she will still need his help with the kids, and to stay at his house. He’s really worried about her and all the pressure she’s under – so that’s why he’s not walking away.

‘Katie says it was never going to work between them and too much has gone on.

‘But there’s no point in falling out like she has with almost all of her exes. They’re still spending time together – that way he still gets the benefits of her fame and she gets support – and someone to drive her around.’

Proving to be even more financial woes for Katie, on Wednesday she was ordered to pay her ex-husband Alex Reid £140,000 in legal fees after allegedly showing sex tape footage of him to a studio audience.

Katie was also handed a five-year injunction preventing her from sharing any private information about their relationship.

Price was accused of playing a sexually explicit video clip of Mr Reid to a 40-strong TV studio audience off-camera while filming an episode of Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit On The Side in January last year.

Mr Reid was at the High Court today as Judge Richard Davison ruled in his favour against Ms Price, explaining: ‘I propose to enter judgement for damages to be assessed’.

The judge also hit Ms Price with a £150,000 lawyers’ bill, and Mr Reid said outside court afterwards: ‘I don’t ever want to talk about her again’.

The case is due to return to the High Court in March when a judge will work out how much compensation is due, but Mr Reid’s lawyers say they are claiming up to £100,000.

On Tuesday, Katie was declared bankrupt at a court after facing further legal action over her spiralling debts.

The night before the hearing, the star launched into a lengthy rant as she sipped wine from a can while travelling on a busy train, as reported by The Sun

She told commuters on Monday that she blamed her ex-husband for her financial issues and claimed she turned down reality shows, such as Strictly Come Dancing, which could have helped pay off her debts.

On the train between King’s Cross and Ebbsfleet, she said: ‘Tomorrow, I’m being declared bankrupt. Even though I’m not bothered.

‘I’ve known it’s coming, going bankrupt, because I took him (Andre) to court. He’s the worst person ever.’

She added: ‘I f****** can’t wait. I’m better off. I know I shouldn’t say it. It’s good for me. It’s better than paying two-and-a-half grand a month to f****** HMRC. I’m not worried.’

The 41-year-old also said the scandal surrounding Prince Andrew and his relationship Jeffrey Epstein had given her ‘a break for a few days’ from the media.

She added:  ‘I’ve done the jungle twice, why would I do it again? I’ve done Big Brother, won that, Strictly I would never do, they don’t offer enough money.

Price, who has been married three times, is believed to have debts of £800,000, and has been failing to pay £12,000 a month to her creditors.

She is said to be £100,000 in arrears on mortgage repayments on the home which she allegedly spends £2,000 a month heating by leaving it on all the time.

Katie is also believed to have spent £120,000 on housekeepers, gardeners and nannies – and around £25,000 a year on plastic surgery.

She also spends £1,500 a week on manicures and pedicures, £1,000 on hair appointments and £800 on massages every other day, reported the Daily Mirror.

Price used to be able to fund her lifestyle through modelling, reality TV shows and fragrances when she was at the height of her fame in the 1990s and 2000s.

However, now her only regular sources of income nowadays appear to be her Quest Red TV show My Crazy Life and plugging weight loss products on her Instagram account.

Man Utd squad confirmed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leads young team to Kazakhstan – Mirror Online

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/man-utd-squad-confirmed-ole-20965068

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to name a youthful side for their Europa League group stage game against Astana on Thursday.

United’s 3-0 victory over Partizan earlier this month sealed their place in the knockout stages of the competition, meaning Solskjaer looks set to rest many of his big name players for the match in Kazakhstan.

The likes of Largie Ramazani, Dylan Levitt and Ethan Laird are expected to be involved, as well as 19-year-old defender Max Taylor, who has recently undergone treatment for testicular cancer .

Head of first-team development Nicky Butt will also travel with Solskjaer and the team, and there should be the opportunity for United fans to see some of their young, upcoming academy players.

Of United’s stars, only Jesse Lingard, Luka Shaw, Axel Tuanzebe and Lee Grant appear to have made the trip, with the vast majority seemingly allowed to stay in Manchester.

The game in the Kazakhstani capital Nur-Sultan is likely to be played in temperatures approaching -10 degrees, and Solskjaer presumably is not willing to risk any of his most important players getting injured.

It will be a proud moment for Taylor in particular, however, if he makes an appearance, with the player only finishing his chemotherapy treatment for cancer 12 months ago.

Upon his return after treatment he said: “I feel immensely proud and happy to be back on the training pitch with my team-mates and friends.

Brighton head coach Graham Potter admits he was surprised to receive a new six-year contract just six months after joining the club.

Brighton have handed head coach Graham Potter and his staff new six-year contracts just six months after joining the club from Swansea.

Potter, assistant Billy Reid, first-team coach Bjorn Hamberg and assistant head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay, were given four-year contracts in March but have now signed extensions until 2025.

Since replacing Chris Hughton in May, Potter’s team have changed the style of play at the Amex Stadium and guided Brighton to 12th in the table this term after 13 games.

“We’ve been really pleased with the start Graham has made as head coach since joining us in the summer, and I’m delighted he and his staff have committed to these new long-term contracts,” Brighton chairman Tony Bloom said.

“Together with his backroom team, he has continued the club’s progress of recent years and brought a different approach with a new style of play, which has been embraced by players and supporters alike.

“In the summer we unveiled a new long-term vision for us to become an established top-10 Premier League club, and we feel even more strongly that Graham as a bright, energetic and innovative head coach, is the right man to lead us there.”

Potter joined Swansea in the summer of 2018 after impressing across an eight-year spell with Swedish club Ostersund.

Despite failing to guide Swansea to promotion from the Sky Bet Championship in his one season in charge, his impact at the Welsh club convinced Brighton to move for him.

“I’m thrilled that the club have liked what they’ve seen so far, in a relatively short period of time, and have already shown an added confidence in what we are trying to do,” Potter said.

“I hope that this is just the start of what will be another successful period in our history, and I’m extremely grateful that the club have made this long-term commitment.”

Audi to cut 9,500 jobs to fund electric car push – BBC News

Carmaker Audi is to cut 9,500 of its 61,000 jobs in Germany between now and 2025 to make more money available for electric vehicles and digital working.

The cuts – which aim to save €6bn (£5.1bn) – will be achieved through an early retirement programme.

But the Volkswagen-owned firm also said its move into electric cars would mean the creation of up to 2,000 jobs.

It comes less than a fortnight after Daimler said it would cut more than 1,000 jobs by the end of 2022.

The car industry is facing a downturn in key markets, including China, as well as increased costs as it meets tougher European Union emissions regulations and the costly switch to electric vehicles. Audi saw falling sales, revenues and operating profits in the first nine months of 2019.

In a statement, the carmaker said the job cuts would “take place along the demographic curve – in particular through employee turnover and a new, attractive early retirement programme”.

“The company must become lean and fit for the future, which means that some job profiles will no longer be needed and new ones will be created.”

The Audi E-tron is the first of 20 battery-powered models due to appear by 2025

The carmaker said it would guarantee the jobs of operational workers until 2029.

It added that it would continue to train young people and maintain its number of apprentices and student trainees over the next three years. Speaking about the extension of the job guarantee for the workforce, spokesman Peter Mosch said: “We have reached an important milestone.

“The jobs of our core workforce are secure. The extension of the employment guarantee is a great success in difficult times. In addition, the upcoming electrification of the Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm plants. underscores the long-term success of both German sites.”

Like its rivals, Audi is spending billions of euros on new technologies, including battery-electric and hybrid vehicles, connectivity and autonomous driving. But the firm last year also had to pay an €800m fine over its role in the “dieselgate” emissions scandal scandal that started at parent company VW.

It is not just German carmakers that are facing sluggish growth. Car parts suppliers Bosch and Continental have announced thousands of job cuts. And it comes against the wider backdrop of a slowing German economy, which has narrowly avoided a recession.

Audi has sailed through some stormy seas over the past few years, but now it’s setting its sights on a new horizon.

The upmarket VW Group brand was at the heart of the diesel emissions cheating scandal, which erupted in 2015. Its former chief executive, Rupert Stadler, has been charged with fraud over his alleged role in the affair.

Now, like its parent, Audi is focusing on the future – and working flat out to develop electric cars.

It has already launched the E-tron, the first of 20 battery-powered models due to appear by 2025. But developing electric cars that people actually want to drive costs money.

No surprise then that Audi is trying to streamline its operations and slim down its workforce.

Competition in the electric car market is heating up rapidly. Within the next few years we could even see a battle for survival among the traditional mainstream carmakers, as they adapt to what will soon become a very different environment.

Being lean could be a big advantage.

Myles Stephenson sure of Gabby Allen and Dan Osborne affair – Daily Mail

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/celebrity/article-7727797/Im-Celebritys-Myles-Stephenson-believes-Dan-Osborne-Gabby-Allen-affair-true.html

Myles Stephenson is convinced his ex Gabby Allen had an affair with Jacqueline Jossa’s husband Dan Osborne last year.

Jacqueline reportedly threatened to quit I’m A Celebrity after Rak-Su singer Myles took her aside in the jungle to claim that Dan have a fling with Love Island star Gabby in April 2018 – something both parties have always strenuously denied.

An insider has now told MailOnline that Myles isn’t just partaking in ‘idle gossip’ and strongly believes the allegations to be true, deciding to share what he knows with Jacqueline as a friend after she persistently grilled him.

A source close to Myles told MailOnline: ‘He wouldn’t have said anything unless he believed it to be true. He’s not someone to idly gossip.

‘Jacqueline kept grilling him on the claims and outright asked him several times. He tried to palm her off but she eventually pulled him to one side and insisted he told her what he knows. He didn’t want to be pulled into it.’

Former EastEnders actress Jacqueline, 27, was said to be ‘hysterical’ after the off-camera confession and refused to carry on with the ITV show without speaking to Dan.

Dan was accused of cheating with Love Island star Gabby during a holiday in Marbella in April 2018, which both stars have strenuously denied.

Cheating doesn’t necessarily have to mean sleeping with one another, but could relate to some level of extra-marital intimacy.

At the time Jacqueline was pregnant with her second child, and Dan had temporarily moved out of their family home.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for all parties for comment.

Myles and Gabby, who began dating in September 2018, had an acrimonious split in August after she accused him of cheating and lying to her.

This reportedly included text messages to an ex, this week revealed to be Rebecca Bignell, who he dated from 2016 until 2017.

The former X Factor star denied ever cheating on Gabby and even suggested that she has over-reacted amid the fallout from their break-up.

Speaking ahead of his I’m A Celebrity stint, the singer claimed that he only texted his ex-girlfriend and insisted that he and Gabby were not even together at the time.

Myles then went on to say that it was a ‘stupid mistake’ to text his ex, telling The Sun he ‘stopped speaking’ to her by the time he rekindled things with the Love Island beauty, but by that time, she had already told Gabby they were talking.

Since being in the jungle,  Gabby is thought to have been ‘bombarded’ with claims of Myles ‘cheating’ on her during their relationship, and took to social media to hit out at him.

Alongside a photo of Myles’ face photoshopped onto a leopard, she wrote: ‘OMG I’m dead. I’m not even watching the show but people are sending me things like this.

Saying meet “meaningful Milo”. Apparently he was on about ‘meaningful relationships’. I’m not sure the guy knows what he’s on about tbh.

‘I didn’t know cheating, lying and a whole load of other [poo emoji] came under “meaningful”. Who knows? Each to their own.’

Gabby also ‘liked’ some tweets about Myles, including one that said ‘Watching Myles in the jungle chat about trying to find meaningful relationships when I know he did the dirty on my girl @gabbydawnallen’.

She previously admitted she wouldn’t be watching her ex-boyfriend Myles during his stint on I’m A Celebrity.

This comes after The Sun claimed Jacqueline was ‘hysterical’ following Myles’ admission and refused to carry on with the ITV show without speaking to Dan.

The publication reports that, in unaired footage, show bosses allowed her to temporarily leave the jungle so that she could contact her husband of two years.

It’s said that mum-of-two Jacqueline was allowed to leave a voicemail for the former TOWIE hunk and that he left one for her in return.

It’s said that producers believed that as that as long as the couple didn’t directly speak to each other, then it wouldn’t put her at an unfair advantage to her camp mates.

A source told The Sun: ‘Jacqueline was beside herself after Myles told her what he believed. She was nothing short of hysterical.

‘Jacqueline has been fantastic to watch so producers really wanted to avoid a situation where she walked out.

‘But equally they were very conscious about a duty of care towards her and had to consider her mental state.’

They added that after exchanging voicemails, the star was ‘offered the chance’ top remain on the show, which she ‘accepted’.

Dan has thus far made no mention of the alleged communication with his wife, but revealed that he is flying out to Australia on Tuesday to greet Jacqueline when she leaves the jungle.

Just last week, he hit out at ‘boring’ infidelity rumours in an interview with heat magazine.

It was recently reported that Jacqueline had contacted Gabby around the time of the cheating rumours, asking if she had slept with her husband.

Speaking to The Sun about the claim, Dan said: ‘Jacqueline has sent a few messages to women I’ve been accused of cheating with — I think any partner would do that — asking what had happened between us.

‘I’ve told her I haven’t cheated on her, that I’ve just been out with those girls, they’re mates and that’s it.

‘I’m a friendly person so I’ll go out and speak to people I get on with, male or female. That’s just what I’m like.’

In March, Gabby revealed her friendship with fellow Celebrity Big Brother contestant Dan was over, following claims he had kissed Love Island’s Alexandra Cane during a night out – a rumour both parties have firmly denied.

Describing the situation as a ‘mess’, Gabby went on to say that she hoped for the sake of both Dan and his partner that the allegations were false.

Revealing they hadn’t spoken since appearing on the reality show, she said: ‘Jacq and her family are much more important than me and Dan being mates.’

Describing Dan as a ‘nice guy’, Gabby said she hoped for the sake of Dan and Jacqueline’s relationship that the allegations were false.

She told The Sun: ‘I just think – I really hope it didn’t happen because it’s so s**t to have that hanging over your head and people thinking that you’re a homewrecker when you didn’t do anything.

‘I hope for both their sake’s it didn’t happen. And for Jossa’s sake.’

Jacqueline and Dan married in 2017 and live in Jacqueline’s Kent house. The couple share two daughters, Mia, 17 months, and Ella, four.

Ahead of her stint in the jungle, Jacqueline told how she didn’t want to be perceived as a ‘pushover’ or a ‘doormat’ amid rumours surrounding her marriage.

The mother-of-two explained: ‘I think people think I am a pushover or a doormat. I also think some people pity me.

‘I want to show I am fine, I am up for a laugh and that I will go for it and try my best. It’s going to be so difficult going in as me and that’s definitely going to be the hardest part.’

Hong Kong protests: Aftermath of Polytechnic University siege – BBC News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-50563883

Images from inside Hong Kong’s Polytechnic University show the aftermath of a week-long standoff between protesters and police.

The fight for control of the Polytechnic University has been one of the defining moments of nearly six months of anti-government protests in the territory.

Protesters barricaded themselves inside the campus almost two weeks ago. The authorities responded by sealing off the campus, trapping more than 1,000 inside. Over the past week, most protesters have either surrendered or escaped.

General election 2019: Muslim Council criticises Tories over Islamophobia – BBC News

Media captionMuslim Council of Britain’s Miqdaad Versi says Islamophobia is “endemic, institutional within the Conservative Party”

The Muslim Council of Britain has accused the Conservative Party of “denial, dismissal and deceit” over the issue of Islamophobia.

The MCB said the party had a “blind spot for this type of racism” and had failed to take steps to tackle it.

The group was responding to criticism of Labour’s handling of anti-Semitism by the chief rabbi.

Conservative leader Boris Johnson said party members guilty of Islamophobia “are out first bounce”.

In the Times, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis said Labour had not done enough to tackle anti-Semitism and urged people to “vote with their conscience” in the general election.

He wrote that the “overwhelming majority of British Jews are gripped by anxiety” at the prospect of a Labour victory in the 12 December poll.

In response, the MCB said British Muslims would “listen to the chief rabbi and agree on the importance of voting with their conscience”.

A spokesperson added that the “unacceptable presence of anti-Semitism in Britain” was a source of “real fear” for British Jews.

They added the chief rabbi’s comments “highlighted the importance of speaking out on the racism we face, whilst maintaining our non-partisan stance.”

“It is abundantly clear to many Muslims that the Conservative Party tolerate Islamophobia, allow it to fester in society”.

“This an issue that is particularly acute in the Conservative Party.”

Watchdog probe

The MCB is an umbrella organisation of various UK Muslim bodies, including mosques, schools, and charitable associations.

It has previously called for allegations of Islamophobia in the Conservative Party to be investigated by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission.

The UK’s human rights watchdog is currently investigating allegations of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.

The Conservatives have pledged to start an investigation into Islamophobia and other forms of prejudice within the party before the end of the year.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Johnson said: “If anybody is convicted, if anybody is done for Islamophobia, or any other prejudice or discrimination in the Conservative Party they are out first bounce.”

Earlier, Chancellor Sajid Javid told the BBC: “What we have done is changed laws, we’ve increased penalties, we’ve encouraged reporting.

“That’s important to make sure that the whole country, the police and all institutions, are working really hard to root out hatred,” he said.
